"I wish I never bought this machine. It is poorly designed and built. It is hard to start and has been frustrating to own. Much more trouble than it is worth. It was quite expensive and not nearly worth the price. If I had it to do over again I would definitely not buy one."

Carpe Diem - Not Worth a Dime! Date: March 30, 2009
"You're only buying a heartache with the CSV204/6. Believe me, I know these machines, this is the 3rd MTD I've owned. Received mine at 11:00am today and by 7:00pm....... 1. Stud broke while mounting chute. Had to grind off & replace - 2hrs. + 1 hr. disassembly and another hr. of reassembly. 2. Wouldn't start - safety switch defective - 1 hour to troubleshoot and disable. 3. No longer has multiple speeds or reverse. 4. Collector bag smaller than it used to be & not nearly as securely stitched (but the lining is an improvement). 5. Nozzle attaches with "plastic" wing nuts that vibrate loose within the 1st 15 minutes of use. - 1 hr. to reinstall with steel wing nuts & washers. 6. Nozzle rear flap fell off within the first hour - 1 hr. to disassemble, analyze and find the right fasteners. 7. Discharge chute cracks at housing because there are no washers to spread the load of the bolt head. - 15 mins. to repair with body washers. 8. Collector bag does not close tightly around chute throwing debris everywhere. - 10 mins. to install old bag which wasn't any improvement. 9. No dipstick and difficult to fill crankcase. - 45 mins. to find & install extension fill tube and calibrate dipstick. The only real improvement is that it starts better than the old one (when the safety switch is disabled) but it's noisy & a gas guzzler. Over 8 hrs., I got less than an hour of run time & had to fill the tank 3 times."

Nothing but trouble Date: January 16, 2009
"We purchased this expensive machine a little over 1 year ago, with excitement for all it could help us accomplish in our acre yard. It was always exhausting to start for my husband and I. Vaccuming leaves would go nicely until it would clog (frequent) and chipping small branches became more of a chore than it was worth because it took so long, and constantly got jammed--which was a pain to clean out. We certainly spent more time futzing with this piece of equipment than actually progressing in the work to be done. Then when vaccuuming leaves we heard a horrible sound and it quit altogether. We took it to be repaired because it is still under warranty, but the shop reported an oil leak causing the engine to blow, and void the warranty. So we wasted a lot of time and money for nothing! Very very dissapointed, the worst purchase of a lifetime!"

Remodify body frame Date: November 22, 2008
"I've had the VCS 206 vac/mulcher for 3 years now, and I like the power of this unit, but I don't like the way they designed the framing that holds the motor section. The front wheel section is seperate from the whole body, and with the vibration of this unit, ends on snapping the welds off the frame. I've had to custom design this section so as it doesn't break at all. My next purchase of a unit , I'll know what to look for. I wish Troy Bilt would re-inforce or change this flaw. Maybe if the front wheels were part of the whole structure this would not happen."
