"I have a 115' x 70' garden we put in. The soil had never been plowed. This heavy duy bugger did the job and then some! I started out only going a couple inches at a time until I was able to reach maximum depth (about 4 passes total. Don't try to till to deep at first in virgin soil. Take a little depth at a time
Best rear tine tiller I have ever owned. Sturdy bilt. Really mills the dirt into fine soil. Once dirt is broken up, very easy to use one handed.
The only downfall I have is that I am 6'4" and when the maximum tilling dept has been reached, I had to bend down a bit to reach the handles. I wish there were a couple more adjustments to the handlebar height.
Now that the veggies are growing well I just till about 4" deep at about 1/3 throttle speed to airiate the soil and mix in the fertilizer between the rows.
Very good purchase for the money and you will be hard pressed to find a machine this well bilt for the price! Very happy with the purchase."

Troy built tillers Date: September 23, 2009
"I have owned two troy built tillers and in my opinion they are truely the best on the market. I have rented several others brands and there is no comparrison. My first Horse I payed for in a year and a half tilling other gardens. I sold it due to a move, that I regret doing, and since have bought another. You do have to respect the machine and learn not too try and till too deep at first especially with sod, but after you learn what to do and not do its a breeze to operate! I personnally prefer the Horse since its heavy enough to do the job right! It always starts by the second pull."

Pony Date: May 19, 2009
"I had to give up my Econohorse because no engine could be found to fit it. I purchased a Pony thinking it would be very similar to what I had. I was WRONG! If all the tines are turned inward, they leave ditches instead of a smooth planting surface.IF two of outside tines are turned outward it throws dirt several feet because the shield is not wide enough. Wheels are set out further than tines, so you cannot get close to the plants unless you run over them and it leaves tire prints in the worked ground. It has onlyone speed which is too fast for careful work and no way to change belts to adjust speed. Not heavy enough to allow one handed operation as the Econo horse was."

Perfect for East TX. Date: February 13, 2009
"Our soil is sandy loam with fairly good drainage. This tiller works much better than a reverse tine type tiller. We have had the Pony for 4 years and is excellent for the 3 areas I use for gardening. We've had so many surplus vegetables we put a "honor system" table in front of our property. It's paid for the seeds and plants. I've had no problems with the tiller while only doing routine maintenance. If this one ever gives up the ghost, I'll get another."
